Capsule Showcase at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair to hold
Across cultures and centuries, rope knotting, crochet and weaving have carried feminine knowledge, shaping ritual, trade and domestic life while encoding care and continuity into material form.

‘To hold’ brings this lineage into the present through a collaboration between PICHULIK and Lloyd. These two female-led South African luxury craft practices work with rope as both material and language. PICHULIK presents a series of limited-edition, embellished bags that draw on ancient ideas of value, vessel and adornment, incorporating semi-precious stones, sculptural rope and symbolic cast brass.
In dialogue, Lloyd has created a sculptural light landscape that envelops the space like a held sky. Hand-woven and illuminated, the structure echoes the forms and rhythms of the bags, transforming rope, stone and light into an immersive environment.
Together, the installation honours craft as a feminist inheritance and reclaims it as a site of strength, meaning and contemporary expression.
